Meet Cynthia R. Powers - Broker/Owner
Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, Cynthia graduated (as Valedictorian) from Gary’s Tolleston High School and earned both Bachelors and Masters Degrees at Indiana State University in English and College Student Personnel. In 1970, immediately after graduating from college, Cynthia and her then fiancé Mamon Powers, Jr. started Powers Realty, Inc. In later years, as Mamon began to devote his full time attention to Powers Construction, Cynthia took full control of the real estate business and soon after purchased a Century 21 franchise. She is currently a licensed Broker in Indiana and Illinois.
For almost forty years, Cynthia has dedicated her professional career and expertise to ensuring that open and integrated housing opportunities are available in all communities in Northwest Indiana. In the 1980’s, Cynthia along with six other Gary Real Estate Brokers labored to allow open access for African American Realtors to the local Multiple Listing Service Organization. It is felt that by obtaining this access, open housing in Northwest Indiana had a new beginning. Cynthia went on to become a Board member and President of the local Northwest Indiana Multiple Listing Services and Board of Realtors and 1st Vice President of the Indiana Association of Realtors.
Cynthia’s civic and cultural activities reflect the sentiments of a caring individual who has long been involved in the Gary community and throughout Northwest Indiana. She currently serves on the Board for Friends of Emerson School of Visual and Performing Arts , YWCA of Gary, South Shore Arts, and the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Council. She is a Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Cynthia is also co-chair of the United Negro College Fund’s fundraising campaign in Northwest Indiana. In the past, Cynthia has served on the Board for numerous organizations including: Bank Calumet, Drifting Dune Girl Scouts, Willowglen Academy, Tradwinds Rehabilitation Center, Hospice of the Calumet Area, Lake Area United Way, Legacy Foundation, The Discovery Alliance, and The Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council.
As a grass roots community volunteer, Cynthia has dedicated countless volunteer hours to motivate and mentor youth and young professionals in our area. For years, Cynthia has coordinated a mentoring program for the Northern Indiana Chapter of the Links, Inc. for at risk youths at Pulaski-Dunbar Middle School. Additionally for over 15 years, Cynthia has coordinated a youth choir ranging in size from thirty to forty teenagers at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gary, Indiana. Involvement with this choir has overwhelmingly added to the scope and magnitude of Cynthia’s active "mentoring of the youth in the City of Gary."

Born and raised in Kilmichael, Mississippi, Mr. Winfrey began his college career at Tennessee State University and received additional degrees from Fisk University, Indiana University Northwest and the University of Nevada. Professionally promoted form a teacher to a dean to an assistant principal to a principal, Mr. Winfrey has continued to promote the development of positive mental attitude in the people he meets - both young and old. His “Can Do” attitude is contagious and his dedication to his ideals is motivating.
With a personal motto and lifelong philosophy “Learn from yesterday - Live for today - Hope for tomorrow” shapes his daily agenda. Mr. Winfrey is very active in the “Brotherhood” of his church and serves as a mentor and community volunteer in numerous organizations including COP for the City of Gary, Kiwanis, CASA, Phi Delta Kappa Fisk Club and Omega Psi Phi fraternity to name only a few.
With such dedication to his community, it is hard to imagine that Mr. Winfrey has been associated with Century 21 Powers Realty, Inc. for over 30 years. Meet Janice Hollis - Agent
For over 26 years, Janice has balanced a dual career in real estate with Century 21 Powers Realty, Inc. and as an elementary school teacher. A teacher for over 33 years, she continues to enjoy the opportunity to mold young lives and help provide for her students a strong academic foundation. Yet, her true passion is her real estate career. Meet Virginia Lewis - Agent
A “caring touch” from the beginning of her real estate career has continued to exemplify Virginia’s personal marketing and servicing expertise.
Virginia was born in St. Louis, Missouri where she grew up before heading off to Indiana to receive her Nursing degree and begin her passionate nursing career.
However, somehow the field of Real Estate fascinated her and she took her first RE class in 1993. The process of selling homes appeared to be so appealing and exciting to her that she became a licensed agent in 1999 and joined the Century 21 Powers Team.
Because she feels that buying a home can and should be a happy and exciting time, Virginia’s goal is to match her clients with the home of their choice with as little stress as possible. Born in Shelby County, Tennessee, Mr. Sease’s travels with the Air Force to Japan, Korea and all around the United States have enhanced his technical skills and tenacious ability to seek and find the ideal property for each of his clients.
After over 34 years, with a dual career in both real estate sales and as a postal service employee, Mr. Sease retired from the postal service to devote his full time energies to his church and his real estate clients.

Meet Kelly Baria - Agent
Kelly Baria was born and raised in Northwest Indiana. She graduated with distinction from Purdue University, receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in construction.
After graduation, Kelly worked for Powers & Sons Construction Company in Indianapolis, Indiana before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area. There she worked for Tucker Alan Inc., a national business and litigation consulting firm. As a member of the construction team, Kelly performed economic damages and schedule analyses on commercial and industrial construction projects.
After spending four years in the construction industry, Kelly decided to pursue her interest in real estate. She earned her California real estate license and joined Mohr Partners, Inc., a national firm focused on providing tailored, tenant-based corporate real estate services. There she assisted in the oversight of leasing activities for key Mohr Partners clients, including Old Republic Title Company with over 140 locations in the Western Region.
In 2005, Kelly and her husband decided to return home to Indiana. She joined her mother, Cynthia Powers, and the rest of the Powers team bringing with her a diverse background in new construction, tenant improvements, and commercial leasing. She currently holds real estate licenses in Indiana, Illinois and California.
Meet Joyce M. Sinquefield - Agent
Joyce specializes in selling real estate in Lake County, Indiana and Cook County, Illinois. She is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Chicago seeking a fulfilling job to provide a prosperous future for her family. She worked in downtown Chicago for thirty-four wonderful years for the United States Postal Service. There she worked with both postal employees and customers to seek solutions to ensure expedient delivery of the mail in Chicago and Gary.
Joyce retired from the United States Postal Service and is now enjoying a new beginning and another career in real estate. With pleasure she joined Century 21 Powers Realty, Inc., where she is calling upon her experience helping clients. This time it is in finding the best fit for clients buying and selling real estate.
